Lake Swim 2013

I'm afraid summer has ended here in the Northwest.
Last week I rode my bike home from work, it was 91 degrees!!! but there weren't too many complaints because we all knew what's in store.  This week cooler fall temperatures (and rain) reintroduced themselves.  Saturday was slated for rain but we lucked out with a Sunny and relatively warm day (64 degrees)  But warm enough for "The Swim"

Last year (at age 5) Hyrum was bound and determined to swim across our neighborhood lake.  Mom was hesitant but Hyrum was determined; and he made it!! with a Dad tagging along behind in the Kayak.  To make a tradition of it Hyrum completed it again.  All 242 yards of it.  Not bad for a six year old.  I don't think I would be up to it.  I was a very proud Dad.

I followed along in the Kayak, the rules were no touching the kayak and getting to the other side was when he could stand up in the water.  The shore was a bunch of bull rushes without a good beach to climb up on.
By this time he was pretty cold so he hopped onto the back of the kayak and we hightailed it back to the other side with a dry towel.  I kicked myself for not bringing the camera with me in the boat.  He looked really cute swimming along in the water.
I was really proud of him.  It was cold from the get go and I kept on asking him if we wanted to bail, but nope he was determined to reach the other side.  We had a good discussion afterwards about how the best things in life are sometimes the hardest.  It was fun Dad moment.
