Second Trip to Second Beach (and Rialto Beach)

In anticipation for the family reunion we made our second scouting trip out to the La Push area.  We wanted to check out second beach and low tide and Rialto beach to the North.  We also discovered Mora campground just outside of La Push in the Olympic National Park.  We really liked the Mora campground which has campsites on a first come basis, arriving Thursday evening we were able to find plenty of campsites.

It was really hot and sunny day in most of western Washington.  The weather was beautiful and sunny at the campground but two miles down the road out to the coast and the blue skies were covered in a cold and windy fog.  Cold enough that we were glad we brought jackets.
Both beaches have their highlights Rialto had a lot of really cool rocks and drift wood trees.
The boys (Dad included) had a lot of fun climbing the drift logs, and rock stacking proved to be quite the popular past time.

Second beach was also overcast but it proved to be better sheltered from the wind.  Definately a better beach for camping.

Rialto Beach

Lots of huge drift logs were along the beach.
Fun for climbing around on.

It was pretty foggy that day.  The sun would try and poke through
but it pretty much stayed while we were there there.
Some people fishing.  They had caught about 6 perch.
They looked a lot like regular lake perch.

Lots of cool flat and round rocks, It was interesting how similarly sized rocks
would congregate together.  It was hard deciding which rock was our favorite.
We came home with a bunch of rocks in our pockets.
Isaac and I are looking forward to some really good stone soup!

Fun design someone had made.

Seeing who could stack the rocks the highest

Playing out in the waves

Sea foam almost got them.

Dad and his kite.

A little bit of Sun at Rialto beach

Mora Campgroud

About 2 miles from the beach it was all sunshine.
We finally found the aerobee after an errant throw into the bush.
It was quite the ordeal a group prayer finally led us to the location :)

So this was interesting, a little amphitheater at the campground.
The boys had just performed in a talent show at Church and were pretty excited
to get up and tell jokes and sing some songs.
I guess I wasn't too impressed.

Second Beach

We tried getting there for low tide.  This was a pretty cool Island that we
hopped onto but had make it quick because the tide was coming in and
shutting off a dry access back to the beach.   I was impressed the boys followed me
but was a little anxious about getting us all back safe and dry.

A beach time favorite
